WPBS Motion Graphics

When I was in my first full time faculty position at  East Stroudsburg University I learned a great deal about motion graphics. There was great student demand to work in television in New York City, about 80 miles to the east. I had used Adobe After Effects in graduate school for data visualization and video editing, so I took the opportunity to get what I consider an industry ready skill set in motion graphics for broadcast TV. I have occasionally struggled with other academics who mistake any technical jargon as non-scholarly. Skills in motion graphics gives students the ability to express ideas that change across time in ways that writing cannot. If you understand the mathematics of video compression you can more clearly express your ideas. People have been making motion graphics since cavemen counted on the flickering of fires to animate their designs.

One client I really enjoyed working with was WPBS, I produced opening title sequences for a range of their shows, from news to entertainment. Above is an animation I designed and created for a news program called "Public Eye with Jeff Cole".  I designed the motion graphics to be consistent with the shows base style guide below.
